Broadband

July Fourth Picture We believe, as does our President, that the economy is evolving towards one based on knowledge and facilitating a knowledge-based economy will require broadband access to the internet. How do we get that?

There are only two viable choices at present. It either must come over fiber optic lines or high speed radio connections. Since we didn't have enough funds to deploy fiber, we brought wireless broadband to Colebrook.

We have obtained assistance from United States Senator John Sununu in the form of a $250,000 grant.  This enabled us to build a wireless broadband network which serves Colebrook, but will enable other towns in both New Hampshire and Vermont to benefit as well.

We have members sitting on the boards of North Country Connect, Coos Economic Development Corporation, The Coos Consortium, North Country Council and many other organizations. Several of us are working with both the Federal and State Governments to help bring this to the area as soon as possible. If we want to attract industry and the jobs which come along, we have to make our environment attractive. High speed broadband connections has made our town very attractive indeed!

Our eventual goal is to connect with our neighbors to the west in Vermont, to the east in Maine and to the north into Canada as well as the rest of the State below us. We believe we can facilitate connections and help lead New England by demonstrating an applied use of wireless transmission including WiFi, Wi-Max, and other licensed and unlicensed technologies. The Town of Colebrook and others currently own and have made available tower sites for little beyond the cost of electricity.

Colebrook Development Corp is a non-profit, 501c3 corporation dedicated to creating economic opportunities in the Colebrook, New Hampshire area.
